New Rules

The 2025-2026 school year is filled with new goals, rules, and expectations for everyone. As many may know, SASH has implemented some new rules, so “The Storm” took it into their own hands to compare how everyone feels about this year between the staff, admin, and students. All parties were asked the same questions about how they feel about the changes.

Consensus surrounding the topic of YONDR pouches was mostly the same. Day one, most students did not like this concept, the idea that every day we will be made to lock and tuck our phones away in this Grey and Green, Magnet-Locked, Pouch. However, as the days pass on, it seems students don’t mind it as much anymore.

Many of the initial concerns were students felt they had the right use their phones just in case of an emergency. Also, some students claim to be able to focus better with music, it helps them get in their zone, and not having the device they play music from could be detrimental to their grade. Lastly, students feel that High School students should be old enough to have their phones and be able to use them in lunch and during passing periods.

With that said, students, contrary to what is expected, are realizing the YONDR pouches are beneficial to their learning, expressing that they don’t have that itch to reach for their phone as much, now that they’re locked away in our book bags.

Ms. Morfa stated she believes she sees an increase in social interactions between the students in and out of the classrooms.

Mr. Green feels it takes a load off the teachers allowing them not to have to worry about students being distracted during instructional time, while also being pleasantly surprised by the student's cooperation with the pouches. Mr. Gonzalez made a similar statement but understood the students’ desire to have access to their phones during the day.

The go flow schedule is one of the brand-new changes here at SASH but also had many similar opinions. Coach Torres believes it creates an equal opportunity for each class and benefits the student athletes with their grades and attendance in classes. Mr. Gonzalez at first did not like the new schedule, as well as Mr. Green, but they believe it’s convenient for the athletes.

One of the students The Storm interviewed, who chose to stay anonymous, said they do not like the new schedule and prefers the older schedule because it's easier and simpler to remember.

Even though the rules might be shocking and drastic to some, everyone has been able to pull through and see all the benefits they are providing not only for the athletes but also the students, staff, and teachers.

We have a very exciting year ahead of us and The Storm is excited to be able to write about everyone's favorite topics and events!

Pleasantly surprised by the student’s cooperation with the pouches.
